First Impression (9/10)
Your page loaded extremely fast, something very good! Points for that^ I also like the blue color scheme, it is very light and I like it a lot. I was testing this layout in Firefox 2 using my Vista laptop with a resolution of 1280×900 and it looked perfect^ Your welcome section is nice on the top of your page, except I see quickly that the font may be a little hard to read after a while. Also, I found one typo, not a huge deal though—” We are here to provide you with a verity for“… I’m thinking you meant to say a variety of. Not bad though! Your layout has been passed using Firefox 2, Internet Explorer 7 64bit and Safari 3.
The Layout–Design (17/20)
Your version during this review was called Chapter 2: The Open Sea. I really do like it. It has some interesting blending with a .. Zelda theme, correct? It is quite original, I have not seen something like this before. As always, you are very good at picking out your colors for your CSS and main design. They flow very nicely together. I also like the fact that you have another CSS sheet for Internet Explorer to take advantage of things in that browser that are not available in Firefox or Safari. I did not see any CSS differences this time, but I know you have done this in the past, so good thinking. The background of clouds is nice, but as my personal preference, I’m not a fan of endless repeating backgrounds from one image. However, it does go with the theme of this layout for the most part, so I’m not going to be horribly mad at you^.^ I think I actually like your footer than your header. That is quite nice, and you can read all your copyright information. Great design!
The Layout–Coding (9/10)
At first glance, I thought your layout was coded using tables, but actually is a lot of div layers. NIce though. You used a lot of “float” div layers, which is a nice thing to do if you are trying to make your layout appear at its best for any browser resolution. I think this is part of my OCD, but I think that the spacing between your header in your navigation and the links that they go with are a bit too displaced. It seems like the spacing is equal to that of one to separate each category, which it actually is… You used a < P > between the header and the navigation, and the navigation and the next header that are not connected. I would recommend that you edit bottom margin and bottom padding settings in your CSS style-sheet for your header. It is quite easy, and then you do not even need to worry about that first < P >.
When you look at your source page, it is quite organized, so good job on that! Easy to follow. Your main content headers are nice, but I think they might be a little big. On some pages, like your apply for affiliation page, the header is just way too big. I’m not sure if you can control this, but your shoutbox also has a horizontal scroll-bar. Kind of weird when there is just white space when you use it. Who knows- not a big deal, but just pointing it out. Overall though, nice coding!
Content (38/40)
Here is the breakdown of your points.
- Quality (10/10): Your graphics quality are quite nice. Most of them follow the lite color scheme, as seen in your layout designs. I do love your avatars, they are special. I can’t say I would use any of your big textures, but then again, I can’t say I would use my own either^ The one premade layout you had was very nice. I think I actually like it better than your current layout! For being a new site, you’ve done a great job. I can tell most of your wallpapers took you quite some time, and it pays off. Once you get a little more content, it will be an awesome site- your quality is already great!
- Updating (5/5): You update often, even if you don’t post everything daily. When you do post your updates, you did a lot of stuff, so kudos to you!
- Quantity (4/5): The only reason I couldn’t give you the entire five points is because your site is small, but good things come in small packages. If you get more content up, which I know you will, you’ll attract even more people!
- Site Grammar (5/5): I did not see any major issues with grammar on your site. High five!
- Creativity (9/10): Nice creativity. I’m thinking that you may want to add some more tutorials on subjects that many people get stumped on. Also, you may want to be unique by designing around less common anime or manga series. Just a suggestion.
- Our Link (5/5): Our link was a text link, easy to see, and on all your pages. Thank you!
Your Special Content (4/5)
You really didn’t specify a specific section, but you said a lot of your graphics, so let us choose avatars since you have the most of those. You have three different categories which make it nice to separate them that way. I do like your gaming avatars, but they all look like Final Fantasy or Kingdom Hearts… But, hey, I’m a fan too, so it’s not that bad. I think I do see two of the exact avatar right next to each other though.
Your “misc.” avatars are nice. Good textures and blending. I would possibly suggest a music artist section, if you plan on adding a lot more of singers/artists to your avatars. Your anime and manga avatars are special- great blending and use of textures. However, I see a handful of avatars that are exactly the same except one version has writing, and another doesn’t. Personally, I think that is a little weird, but I guess some people might like the option. I would say though that you should have more avatars on each page, you do have room. How about a nice table around them too? That might look nice.
Overall, your avatars are very nice. I have to say I am not the wiz at making them, so I commend you on your work!
An Overall Wrap-Up (14/15)
Overall, I do enjoy a visit to your site. You are an up-and-coming graphic designer, and you should be proud. I like your style and your themes. A few things I would suggest to you have mostly been stated above. There are a few buggy details with your cutenews, but I don’t think your average viewer would notice, so don’t worry. Through and through, you have a nice site there Jessi Ray!
